When shifting the RAM to a different slot or removing one RAM stick, and not resetting the BIOS, when I booted Linux, I saw errors like "usb 1-9: device descriptor read/64, error -110" and another error as shown in the image below (I blacked out the MAC address). Whether that was the actual reason for the sudden crashes, time will tell.ģ. Disabling XMP solved the RAM errors in memtest. Only much later did I realize that the errors happened because XMP was enabled. Due to the errors shown in memtest, I thought the RAM was faulty and I'd have to buy a new one. If you simply allow the user to go to SETUP, without informing them about the relevance of the reset, it leads to problems mentioned in point 3 below.Ģ. Or to mention that since changes are detected, a BIOS reset is compulsory. When you show a message about changes being detected, it helps to mention why you recommend resetting the BIOS. I switched off the PC, removed the RAM in slot 3, and on starting the PC, I was shown a message that changes were detected, and I had 2 options: 1.
